I did wonder how long it would be before Northern Sold chipped in with his usual shit.
I remember him saying his daughter was talking about going to Thailand on holiday and him and his missus weren't happy about it!

Pretty quiet here CBE at the moment , Military Junta, visa crack down, Murders, police ripping off tourists. Good time to book actually , hotels in BKK are very reasonable

Yarmouth - Have a look at Hua Hin, very nice peaceful beach resort around 3 hours in a taxi from bangkok. Sofitel is what you will be looking for. There is a pub/restaurant there run by a Hammer, was a bit of a lad back in the day too.

To be quite honest, if you were completely unaware of the racier reputation of the country (and you can thank the BRITISH in Malaya & Singapore, then the Aussies and Septics in Vietnam/Cambodia for that), you'd be very unlikely to just stumble across the areas concerned unless you are actively looking for them. Some people though, are totally obsessed with the subject and cannot resist showing off their encyclopaedic knowledge on it at every opportunity.
If the situation in Thailand raises any issues for you, there are some beautiful Malaysian islands to consider.

I've just come back from Thailand and spent a few days at the end of the holiday at the Centara in Khao Lak.Its beach front and the beach was stunning.Not much there other than a few restaurants and bars but great place to relax.Plenty of trips etc maybe an hour away.

A mate of mine was asking me about this earlier but I have no fucking clue what the answer is so might as well ask in here:
If you've got a 1-way ticket into Thailand and only have intentions of staying in your 30/60 day visa, but haven't yet booked your onward travel ticket (his idea is basically to get a cheap flight to Malaysia/Bali when he's out there) is there a risk of being turned away when you get there?
From googling there seems to be conflicting info.

Mashed. It would depend on how many entries he's done in the past, if he has back to back (out and back in) visa stamps in the past.
You don't need a visa for 30 days . So I guess he's getting a 60
They are aiming at people who work illegally so people who have lived for years in Thailand going out and then back in on a new 30 days are fucked Snide (English teachers mainly)
Basically they can ask for onward ticket but normally only if you fit above criteria (you are supposed to have one though). I was in and out every month but because only stayed a few days and then went back to work in Malaysia I only ever had a couple of questions to answer.
bank statement is another thing that can come in handy , to show you can support yourself and are not going to Thailand to work

I stayed in Hua Hin nearly 30 years ago.
A fantastic hotel on the beach - cant remember its name for the life of me now. It was a bit of luxury compared to the other places we stayed travelling around Thailand.

joe and 67, cheers. He's never been before. Think he's just had a one way ticket booked for a while and has been told by someone that he'll probably get turned away if he hasn't got an onward or return ticket, and for some reason asked me, I said no its bollocks, but just to make sure and as someone who's looking into Thailand next year I thought I'd ask on here.
